Senior Systems Administrator

Location:   Ilkley

This is a key role working in a small and focused team under the Head of Technical. You will be responsible for the continued growth and development of Talk Straight’s core server infrastructure. You will also be working with the Head of Development to provide platforms for future projects.  

The successful candidate will have broad experience of working for an ISP or large network operator and have a proven track record within the IT industry. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical expert in the area of systems administration
  • Installation, configuration and documentation of new software and hardware
  • Monitoring and optimising system performance
  • Plan for required hardware and/or software upgrades to support platform growth
  • Manage user accounts, assets and security permissions where required
  • Proactively resolve incidents
  • Mentor team members
Skills Required
  • Strong working knowledge of day-to-day Linux administration, particularly Debian and RHEL distributions
  • Experience working with both virtualisation technologies, especially KVM
  • Strong experience in container orchestration, especially Kubernetes and Docker
  • Understanding of system security best practices
Desirable Skills
  • Experience working with ELK stack
  • Basic TCP/IP knowledge, Linux network stack, bridging and routing
  • Experience with basic programming and/or building systems automation tools
  • Strong experience configuring and working with DevOps pipelines, using tools such as Ansible and GitHub
  • Use of Atlassian products (Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo and Confluence)
  • Good understanding of (My)SQL 
Experience Required 
  • Proven track record of computer system administration
  • Previous experience working in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience managing multiple and often interdependent projects
Salary, Terms & Benefits
  • Salary £30-£35k
  • Full-time, permanent contract of employment
  • Office location Ilkley, West Yorkshire. Remote working considered with regular visits to the office
